Music & Light

Music & Light to turn a breech baby

Music/Daddio’s Voice
The Deal:
Playing music or talking low in the belly is one of the most frequently suggested methods for turning a breech baby. I haven’t seen any studies, but it’s a sweet thing to do and it certainly can’t hurt. Unless your partner’s voice is ridiculously annoying.
How to:
Get headphones and play music (nice soothing music) under your belly where you want baby’s head to go. Press the headphones right up to your skin and turn the volume up. There is a company that makes a contraption for just this purpose. (Belly buds) Alternately, I have heard a number of couples say they had dad (or someone else whose voice the baby is familiar with) talk soothingly down there. “Come down here, little baby. I sing you a song, come on, turn around, la la la…”
Why it might work:
Babies are like us, they like music and people talking nice to them. Maybe your baby will move her head closer to the source.

Light

The Deal:
Lighting up the lower part of your belly is another oft-quoted way of gently nudging bub head down.

How to:

Shine a flashlight on your belly from below. Put it right up to your skin and move it around a little and slooowly. You can do this in conjunction with sound (see above).

Why it might work:
See the theme? Babies are like us, and we all go toward the light. We can’t help it.
