Hypnotherapy for a Breech Baby

Hypnotherapy so Breech Baby Can Turn

The Deal:
In a controlled study, 81% of breech mamas who received hypnotherapy had babies turn compared to 48% of those who didn’t. See a discussion of this hypnosis for breech study. The best results, from what I have read, seem to be from women who had private therapy with professionals. These women probably had more direct opportunity to address issues specific to themselves. Here is what hypnotist Lindsey Vick, who is experienced in hypnotherapy for pregnancy and breeches says she does:1. Help the mother relax, in body and mind
2. Perform a fear release–letting go of any negative or limiting thoughts
3. Ask if there is a reason the baby is breech
4. Have the mother connect with her baby, sometimes doing a fear release for the baby
5. Visualize the baby turning.

Of 11 women in her small study, 9 have turned their babies, 6 of them in the third therapy session.

How To:
I strongly recommend getting professional assistance. Wish I had myself. If you can’t because of time or cost or availability:
Here I have provided a breech hypnosis script you can have someone read to you while you relax your baby around. Or you can record yourself reading it if there is no one who will do it without thinking you are weird.
Gentlebirth provides a free breech baby turn hypnosis MP3.
And  hypnobabies has a Turn Your Breech Baby CD available on amazon for under $15.

Why it might work:
From hypnobabies: “Since the baby in utero is part of the mother, it is registered as so by the subconscious mind, which can be directed to make changes in the mother’s body. Release of fears that can constrict muscles is also used in hypnosis sessions, to help the mother relax and allow her baby to turn.”

Relaxation & Visualization

Relaxation
In Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom, Christiane Northrup says, “It’s clear that in some cases the baby is breech because of the tension that the mother holds in the lower area of her body. It has been observed that anxious and fearful women have a higher incidence of breech presentation than do others, attributable to the fact that fear, anxiety, and stress can activate sympathetic mechanisms that result in tightening of the lower uterine segment.  My obstetrician colleague Bethany Hays feels that a baby may be in the breech position because it is trying to get closer to its mother’s heartbeat-to feel more connected to her” (p. 451).Visualization
Put pictures of head-down babies all around you and think of your baby turning head down anytime you think of it. Here is the link to a poster that might help.
Why it might work:
Your mind is a very powerful thing.

Find a head-down baby image and print it out (get a watercolor visualization poster here) or just keep imagining!
