Chiropractic (Webster) to Turn a Breech

Chiropractic (Webster) for Breech Babies

The Deal:
If you have a chiropractor, you should absolutely see her with your breech baby. Many chiropractors suggest you get adjusted right before birth (to prepare for a difficult physical event) in any case. In the event of a breech baby, some chiropractors are trained in the Webster technique, a special treatment that helps your pelvis and uterine tissues align to help baby easily turn. It is painless and fast and you can have it done multiple times. Many chiropractors claim high success rates with it.
How To:
You want to ask your chiropractor to perform Websters starting at 34 weeks. If you are getting toward the end, it is not usual to go 3x a week and maybe 2x a day. If you are going to have an ECV, do Webster’s before so that if the ECV works your body balance is corrected and more likely to help the baby stay in the new position. Nancy Salgueiro, a chiropractor who specializes in the childbearing year, says you should have your doctor perform only Webster the first time you receive the treatment, to allow your body to focus on correcting those issues. Here is an article about Webster for breech from a chiropractor.

Like most methods of turning breech babies, there is skepticism about how well it works, if at all. Here a chiropractor expresses concern about mamas relying on webster to change a baby’s position, risking breech birth or cesarean when it could be turned by other means.

Why it might work:
Imagine your uterus is a latex balloon. The muscles that support and hold it to your body are like strings. If one of them is super tight, it changes the shape of your womb and causes your baby to lay differently. If your uterus or pelvic area is torqued or otherwise stressed or tight, chiropractic care and especially the Webster technique is supposed to free baby up to move head down.
