It’s always been easier for me to imagine God as a partnership–a Mother and a Father in heaven. Or at least to imagine that the cultural perceptions and concepts we have of mother are more closely related to the nature of God than are the cultural perceptions and concepts we have of father. Not withstanding my own excellent father, I need a God Mom as much as or more than I need a God the Father. Perhaps because I am a woman, perhaps because I am a mother, perhaps because I believe I am a child of God. I must be the child of some Mother.
Hugely pregnant on Mother’s Day, I’d like to say thank you to all the superb expressions of the Mother God in my life. Each of you has helped me to understand and enjoy giving and nurturing life–all the life around us.
We are born great. Let us not be afraid of greatness.
After all, we are keepers of the light.
